The goal of this division-wide, cross-disciplinary proposal is two-fold: to improve the classroom success, career readiness and completions for all Technical Education students while simultaneously strengthening and improving the counseling services offered to Tech Ed students by having a counselor assigned only to the Technical Education division. The desired outcomes are increased enrollment, more completions, and an improved understanding among counselors of the values and specifics of Tech Ed programs.
Since counselors who thoroughly understand both the value and challenges of CTE programs--and specifically those in Technical Education—are limited, it is proposed that a counselor be hired to be assigned only to, and housed in, Technical Education. A counselor thoroughly steeped in degrees, certificates and programs offered in the division, would be able to correctly advise and encourage Tech Ed students about expedient completions, logical pathways, achieving academic and career goals, useful student services and resources available on campus, etc. The Tech Ed counselor will also serve as an information conduit to other ARC counselors and support services about the value of these amazing programs. Part of the assignment would include regularly-scheduled presence at the both the Mather and Twin Rivers teaching locations.
