Advanced manufacturing has been identified as a regional employment development priority and the majority of the North Far North Regional Competitive Funding has been allocated to strengthening and developing Advanced Manufacturing programs. Sierra College has a strong program and will develop this further into an Advanced Manufacturing Innovation Pathway that incorporates Advanced manufacturing, welding, mechatronics and DES. What Sierra College hasn't had is the facilities to expand its program. Funding will be used to convert an adjacent and under utilized facility to provide the area for installing the machinery needed for advanced manufacturing. The local facility funding will be complemented by 40% regional funding for an additional position and regional competitive funding for equipment and other resources for program development. Sierra College will also be working on using facilities to create a co-located advanced manufacturing hub.
