Welding Technology: Implement two new state-of-the industry certificate programs offering a Certificate of Achievement and, more importantly, industry recognized certifications. These new certificate programs will enhance the current Los Angeles City Structural Welding License preparation and enable the program to more closely align with the standards of the welders and pipefitters union. Courses in these programs will focus on: 1) Bridge work and structural retrofit projects; 2) The aerospace industry; 3) Employers seeking American Welding Society (AWS) certified GTAW welders, specializing in aluminum and exotic metals. The investment also will support the replacement of aging, out-of-date equipment and allow for more economical use of limited space. Both programs will participate in SkillsUSA, allowing the students to network, improve technical ability, and win scholarship money and welding equipment.
